माता कात्यायनी की उत्पत्ति कथा

पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, महर्षि कात्यायन एक महान तपस्वी थे। उन्होंने घोर तपस्या करके मां भगवती को प्रसन्न किया और उनसे यह वरदान मांगा कि वे उनकी पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लें। देवी ने उनकी तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें यह वरदान दिया।

उसी समय असुर महिषासुर ने तीनों लोकों में उत्पात मचाना शुरू कर दिया था। देवताओं ने भगवान विष्णु, महादेव और ब्रह्मा से सहायता मांगी। तब त्रिदेवों के तेज से एक अद्भुत शक्ति प्रकट हुई, जो स्वर्ण आभा से युक्त थी। महर्षि कात्यायन ने देवी की पूजा-अर्चना की और वे उनकी पुत्री रूप में प्रकट हुईं। इस कारण इन्हें ‘कात्यायनी’ कहा जाता है।

महिषासुर वध

माता कात्यायनी ने महिषासुर का संहार करने के लिए युद्ध किया। उन्होंने सिंह पर सवार होकर अपने शक्तिशाली अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से महिषासुर को परास्त किया। अंततः, महिषासुर वध के बाद देवताओं ने उनकी स्तुति की और सृष्टि में पुनः शांति स्थापित हुई।

माता कात्यायनी की उपासना का महत्व

माता कात्यायनी की आराधना से भक्तों को सभी प्रकार के भय से मुक्ति मिलती है। इन्हें प्रेम और विवाह की देवी भी माना जाता है। कुंवारी कन्याएं विशेष रूप से इनकी पूजा करती हैं ताकि उन्हें योग्य वर की प्राप्ति हो।

माता कात्यायनी का स्वरूप दिव्य और तेजस्वी है। वे चार भुजाओं वाली हैं। उनके एक हाथ में तलवार, दूसरे में कमल और अन्य दो हाथों में वरमुद्रा तथा अभयमुद्रा होती है। उनका वाहन सिंह है, जो उनके पराक्रम और शक्ति का प्रतीक है।

नवरात्रि में माता कात्यायनी की पूजा विधि

नवरात्रि के छठे दिन माता कात्यायनी की पूजा विशेष रूप से की जाती है। इस दिन भक्त पीले वस्त्र धारण करते हैं और देवी को शहद, लाल फूल, गुड़ और दुर्गा सप्तशती के पाठ से प्रसन्न करते हैं।

Origin story of Mata Katyayani

According to mythology, Maharishi Katyayana was a great ascetic. He pleased Mother Bhagwati by doing severe penance and asked for the boon from her that he should be born as his daughter. The goddess was pleased with his penance and gave him this boon.

At the same time, the demon Mahishasura started creating havoc in all the three worlds. The gods sought help from Lord Vishnu, Mahadev and Brahma. Then a wonderful power appeared from the brilliance of the Tridevas, which was covered with golden aura. Maharishi Katyayana worshiped the goddess and she appeared as his daughter.  For this reason, she is called 'Katyayani'.

Mahishasura Vadh

Mata Katyayani fought to kill Mahishasura. She defeated Mahishasura with her powerful weapons while riding on a lion. Ultimately, after the killing of Mahishasura, the gods praised her and peace was reestablished in the universe.

Importance of worshipping Mata Katyayani

By worshipping Mata Katyayani, devotees get freedom from all kinds of fear. She is also considered the goddess of love and marriage. Unmarried girls especially worship her so that they get a suitable groom.

Form of Mata Katyayani

The form of Mata Katyayani is divine and radiant. She has four arms. She has a sword in one hand, lotus in the other and Varmudhra and Abhayamudra in the other two hands. Her vehicle is a lion, which is a symbol of her might and power.

 Method of worship of Mata Katyayani in Navratri

On the sixth day of Navratri, Mata Katyayani is specially worshipped. On this day, devotees wear yellow clothes and please the goddess with honey, red flowers, jaggery and recitation of Durga Saptashati.
