जलवायु विज्ञान का महत्व( signification of climatology)

वर्तमान युग में जलवायु विज्ञान के अध्ययन का विशेष महत्व है इस विज्ञान के अंतर्गत हम उस्मा विनिमय आद्रता विनिमय एवं पवन प्रवाह में पाए जाने वाले स्थानिक एवं काली परिवर्तनों के उत्तरदाई कारकों का अध्ययन करते हैं इस कार्य के संपादन में जलवायु के विभिन्न तत्वों जैसे सूर्य भिताप सूर्य प्रकाश की अवधि तापमान वायुदाब आद्रता मेघ वर्षण आदि के प्रेक्षण की सहायता ली जाती है। पृथ्वी तथा उसके वायुमंडल के मध्य अथवा स्वयं वायुमंडल के भीतर उस्मा संवेग एवं आद्रता विनिमय की अधिक जटिल प्रक्रियाओं के फल स्वरुप मौसम के उपयुक्त तत्वों के अलग-अलग संयोग पाए जाते हैं जलवायु विज्ञान के अंतर्गत वायुमंडल की रचना एवं संगठन सूर्यताप तापमान वायुदाब एवं पवन प्रवाह आद्रता वर्ष एवं बादल वायु राशि एवं वाताग्र चक्रवात एवं प्रतिचक्रवात वायु विक्षोभ वायुमंडल की स्थिरता आदि का प्रेक्षण  करके इनसे संबंधित नियम एवं सिद्धांतों की रचना की जाती है
जलवायु विज्ञान के अंतर्गत हम विभिन्न मौसमी एवं जलवायाविक तत्वों के प्रादेशिक विभिन्नता के आधार पर विश्व की जलवायु का वर्गीकरण करने में समर्थ होते हैं जलवायु एवं मौसम तत्वों का किसी प्रदेश के निवासियों के स्वास्थ्य शारीरिक गठन एवं उसकी अर्थव्यवस्था पर प्रत्यक्ष प्रभाव पड़ता है इन प्रभाव का अध्ययन जलवायु विज्ञान के द्वारा ही संभव है इस विज्ञान के अध्ययन से हम यह समझने में समर्थ होते हैं कि मानव जीवन को सुख में कैसे बनाया जा सकता है इसके द्वारा जलवायु में होने वाले परिवर्तनों तथा जलवायु के विभिन्न घटकों को संशोधित करके मानवीय क्रियाकलापों के लिए उनकी समस्याओं पर भी विचार किया जा सकता है ।
आधुनिक समय में मानव की प्रौद्योगिक प्रगति वैज्ञानिक विकास संसाधनों के अन्याय पूर्ण एवं  अतार्किक दोहन जैविक तत्वों के जलने से उत्पन्न कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड की बढ़ती मात्रा आदि से होने वाले पर्यावरण प्रदूषण और वायु प्रदूषण का ज्ञान भी हो जाता है जहरीली एसिड वृष्टि होने तथा ओजोन परत के नष्ट होने का क्रम जारी है अतः वर्तमान में जलवायु विज्ञान के अध्ययन से इसके व्यावहारिक पक्ष को समझा जा सकता है और पर्यावरण को प्रदूषित होने से बचाया जा सकते हैं।

Thornweight's World Climate Classification (THORNTHWAITE'S CLASSIFICATION OF WORLD CLIMATES)  The famous American weatherman Thornwet has described climate classification by classifying it into two distinct parts. The first classification was presented in 1931 and 1933 and the second in 1948. Thornweight later revised its classification in 1955. The two classifications often look alike, but if we look closely, there is a difference between the two. In the classification made in 1933, only plants were considered as a special instrument of meteorology, with the help of which the elements of weather can be known. वायुराशियों के  वाताग्र  या सीमान्त (FRONTS OF AIR MASSES) वाताग्र या सीमान्त वह लहरदार एवं विशेष ढाल वाला तल होता है, जहां कि आमने-सामने से दो भिन्न-भिन्न भौतिक लक्षणों वाली वायुराशियां आकर मिलती हैं। ब्लेयर के शब्दों में, “जिस सतह या रेखा के सहारे वायुराशियां पृथक् रहती हैं उसे वाताग्र कहते हैं।" जबकि ट्रिवार्था का कहना है कि “वाताग्र कोई रेखा नहीं होती अपितु पर्याप्त चौड़ाई वाले (5 से 75 किमी) ऐसे क्षेत्र होते हैं जहां से भिन्न स्वभाव वाली वायुराशियां आमने-सामने से आकर अभिसरण (Converge) करती हैं।'' इस प्रकार वाताग्र से आशय उस ढालू सीमा या सीमान्त से है जिसके सहारे दो विपरीत स्वभाव वाली हवायें मिलती हैं। वाताग्र न तो धरातल के ऊपर लम्बवत होता है और न ही धरातल के समानान्तर क्षैतिज होता है। बल्कि वह कुछ कोण पर झुका हुआ होता है। जलवायु विज्ञान में वाताग्र का अत्यधिक महत्व है, क्योंकि ये मौसम की विशिष्ट दशाओं को जन्म देते हैं, जिन्हें चक्रवात, प्रतिचक्रवात कहते हैं। इसीलिये वाताग्र को चक्रवातों व प्रतिचक्रवातों का पलना कहते हैं। (Fronts are cradle of cyclones and anticyclones...
